Cancer is the second leading cause of deaths in Pakistan. Majority of cancer patients are initially seen and managed by the surgeons. Surgery alone cures 60 % of cancer patients. Surgical Oncology Society Pakistan (SOS-PK) has been formed with the following aims:
- To encourage the development of research in oncologic surgery (Including formation of uniform tumor registries at local level in all hospitals).
- To work towards Cancer prevention, early detection and optimal management goals in Pakistan by promoting awareness of general public, health administrators and other related healthcare professional .
- To promote the highest quality of surgical oncology care of the patient with cancer through a multi-disciplinary treatment approach.
- To facilitate communication between surgeons whose primary interest lies In the field of cancer surgery.
